Councillor Stevenson advised that he represented Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) and he attended an Economic and Sustainability Conference, Future Greenland in Nuuk, Greenland on May 14 to 15, 2024. While attending the conference, the airlines announced opening the route between Nuuk and Iqaluit. Councillor Stevenson spoke about the benefits of using the route and sharing ideas.

Councillor Stevenson noted that while in Nuuk, he visited the port and talked about hydroelectricity and business opportunities, which would be valuable to Iqaluit.

Councillor Stevenson indicated that representatives expressed an interest in attending the Iqaluit Conference and Trade Show in September. He felt it was important to welcome and host the Nuuk representatives.

Mayor Awa advised that during the past two days, mayors and senior administrative officers from across Nunavut attended meetings in Iqaluit. Government of Nunavut Community and Government Services made a presentation regarding funding and mayors had the opportunity to discuss how the funding should be allocated to the communities.
